Scholarships

Overview

We’re delighted to announce the scholarship program for fwd:cloudsec conference which is being run in Europe for the first time! Through this initiative, we hope to give a limited number of students or those looking to make a career change to cloud security, a chance to attend our conference, taking place on 17th September 2024. Our conference offers invaluable, cutting edge insights from industry experts and networking opportunities with our attendees & sponsors which could support your transition to this dynamic field. If accepted, you’ll be awarded with a complimentary ticket and a stipend to cover travel costs to, from and during the conference.

Who is this for

This need-based scholarship is primarily for full-time students currently enrolled at an accredited university or college. However, we understand that not everyone is able to attend a 4-year program. If you are currently in another field entirely and yearning to find your path to infosec or cloud security, tell us your story and why you need to be part of this program! We are more than happy to consider someone passionate about wanting to make a career change and are spending their spare time building a lab or teaching themselves the different elements of one of the large cloud providers. Priority will be given to those within a 4 hour flight time to the conference location.

What to include in your application:

• If you are a student:
  • Must provide copy of verifiable proof of full-time academic status at an accredited college or university (an unofficial transcript would be enough)
  • Must provide copy of valid and current college/university ID card
  • A signed letter of recommendation from an instructor at your institution would be encouraged
• If you are self-taught or trying to make a career change, please submit a signed letter of recommendation from a mentor or manager confirming your intentions to transition.
  • Along with other material, please take some time to answer these questions in the email to scholarship-eu@fwdcloudsec.org:
  • Name, school, and year in school (if applicable)
  • LinkedIn profile and/or personal website/Github
  • What excites you most about attending fwd:cloudsec Europe?
  • Have you been to any other information security conferences or events? If you haven’t been to one before, which conferences would you like to attend and why?
  • What career and/or degree are you currently pursuing, and why?
  • Tell us about a conference talk or research paper about Cybersecurity/Cloud that fascinated you.
  • Tell us about a hobby, activity or pursuit that interests and inspires you. Is it challenging, rewarding or both? Tell us why.
  • Are there any other details you would like us to know to support your application? (Optional)

(While we love hearing your stories, we don’t require you to write a novel to be accepted. We expect that for most applications, each question will not exceed 200 words. We ask that keep your answers concise and relevant to these questions above.)

Terms

• All applications must be sent by email, to scholarship-eu@fwdcloudsec.org.
• The application deadline is closed. We are processing applications and will notify shortly.
• Scholarship will be provided based on need
• Must be at least 18 years old at the time of the event
• All submissions must be in English
• Conference tickets awarded as part of this scholarship program are non-transferable and may not be sold, exchanged or redeemed for any cash value.
• Stipend might not cover the full travel costs. We will try our best to accommodate all selected participants within our budget limitations.
• You must attend the conference to receive the stipend.
• If selected, you’ll be invited to attend our speaker dinner on the evening before the conference! You’ll work with our scholarship coordinator if there are any allergies or dietary requirements to be considered, as well as any other queries before and during the conference.
• You must be able to confirm your travel to Belgium within 6 weeks of the conference event day.
• fwd:cloudsec cannot sponsor visas for travel.
